Ecommerce is booming in 2011

In a recent report Ecommerce sales for the first half of 2011 in the UK have grown much faster than expected, when compared to the first half of 2011 there has been growth of of 19%.

In all likelihood this down to numerous factors the main one being the economic downturn pushing customers to shop on-line looking for cheaper deals, as well as other factors such as weather and special events.

The report by Capegemini & IMRG shows that in the first 6 months of 2011 online sales reached  a level of £31.5 billion, so when back in January made their predictions they were not far off with the market growing by 1% more than predicted.

Some of the growth in online shopping has been powered by consumers searching for greater levels of value, rather than quality of service or convenience research has shown.  During the same period high street sales have dropped by more than 0.5%, this shows one of the major benefits of having an online store rather than a physic presence.

The continual drop in high street sales if making it more difficult for the large chains, with more of them placing greater emphasis on their online offerings, as well as bridge the gap between online and offline sales with services such as order online and pick up in store.
