Latest Domain Extension Updates

Here’s a round up of new Domain news from our Domain Name Management team.

.CO.NO  Go Live

Sunrise period for .CO.NO domains closed at the end of January and the Go Live period will open on 22nd February 2011. Application requests can be made by the general public without any restriction or priority rights, and will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

Disclaimer:  The registration of a CO.NO subdomain (as offered by CoDNS which is acting as Operator) should not be confused with the registration of a .NO domain name through Norid, the official Registry of the .NO extension on the Internet.

.SO (Somalia) – Landrush and Go Live

The current Landrush period will end on 28 February. In this period anyone can apply for a domain name without restrictions, however at the end of Landrush, auctions will be held for domains with multiple applications.  From 1 April .SO domains will be available on a first come, first served basis

.COM.VN, .NET.VN, .ORG.VN (Vietnam) – Short domain names

1 and 2 character domains are now available on a first come, first served basis at a standard registration price.  Please note these short domain names are not applicable directly under .VN.

.TEL (Generic) – Short and numeric domain names

ICANN has approved the release of both short (such as and numeric-only (such as or .tel domain names for registration. TelNic, the .TEL Authority, has yet to announce the launch dates and further details.
