Nominet, the registration body for the country code .uk have seen their first month on month rise in registration volumes since March 2000 when 245967 .uk domain names were registered. Since then, the monthly registration volumes have been decreasing. With the domin name registrations drying up, it has caused a number of smaller domain name registrtion companies to go out of business. Many customers have lost critical web based services such as e-mail accounts and web sites.
The total number of .uk registrations for January 2001 was 79,440 compared to 67,204 in December 2000.
However, is this just a one off rise in registration volumes or is this the beginning of a longer term ‘pick up’ in domain regitsrations in the .uk name space?
