Earlier this month, the Inside AdWords crew at Google released an exciting new change for AdWords which will now show the display URL in the headline for select top placement ads.
For example, whereas previously the ad would read
it now shows up as
Raising the prominence of your brand like this reassures existing customers, enhances future recognition from potential customers and, of course, gives more room in the headline for specific promotions.
This raised profile of the URL also means you need your domain to work harder for you. Memorable names become ever more of a premium and, though potentially unavailable in more common extensions like .com, this makes investigating availability in new catchy extensions like .co much more worthwhile.
What’s more you’d be in illustrious company as even the big names are still chasing after this hot new extension – Amazon recently snapped up a.co, k.co and z.co and, perhaps more importantly for their web services business, the premium reserved domain name cloud.co.
